Home Ownership Counseling Program Seminar (Community Action Financial Services)

Neighborhood Housing Services will walk all interested employees through the LNYW program, helping them find an eligible property, select the best mortgage from a participating bank, apply for a residential façade-improvement grant and schedule their real estate closing. Successful completion of the Neighborhood Housing Services counseling program is required by the Live Near Your Work guidelines.

This program is perfect for anyone looking to purchase their first home in the Allentown area. It provides an overview of the home buying process and all the steps it takes to successfully purchase your new home.

The program is divided into six sessions, which are conducted on two consecutive Saturdays. The six sessions will further educate you on:

  • Preparing for home ownership
  • The importance of good credit
  • Shopping for a home
  • Obtaining a mortgage
  • The closing process

A certificate of achievement will be awarded upon successful completion of the seminar; this certificate should be presented to the loan officer at the time of completing the mortgage application. This free program is conducted by the Community Action Financial Services.

Individual Counseling (Community Action Financial Services)

Counseling is available both during and after the home buying process for interested individuals. The counseling staff can assist with:

  • Reviewing your credit report
  • Document preparation prior to applying for a loan
  • Budgeting
  • Pre-Qualification
  • Selecting the best mortgage
  • Referrals for rehab home programs

This free program is conducted by the Community Action Financial Services

One-On-One Counseling (Neighborhood Housing Services of the Lehigh Valley)

The six sessions will further educate you on:

Financial Fitness Workshops (Neighborhood Housing Services of Lehigh Valley)

Financial Fitness was developed to aid low-to-moderate-income individuals and families in learning financial management skills. This course helps participants set financial goals and track spending. It also covers:

  • Understanding credit
  • Applying for a loan
  • Overview of lending institutions and how a loan is evaluated
  • Avoiding identity theft
  • Local community programs
